Hotel am Heideloffplatz and its history
This family enterprise started at Nuremberg’s Pilotystraße where the Klumm family managed the tavern “Grüner Bräu”.There they learned the hospitality business from scratch and found a still undiminished passion for it. In 1960 they moved to Heideloffplatz. Initially the construction of another tavern was planned but the land-use plan didn’t permit a flat-roofed building. The innkeeper didn’t lose track of their concept, added some floors to the building and opened their “Hotel am Heideloffplatz”. In the years 1977, 1980, and 1995 the house was repeatedly remodeled and later a separate building next door added.

Your host at the “Hotel am Heideloffplatz”: Anne Krodel
If you ask Anne Krodel what she likes most about her job she is quick to answer: Meeting a variety of people, getting to know and welcome new guests, finding out about their lives and offering them a cozy home away from home – this is what Anne Krodel enjoys most. Hospitality runs in her blood: She learned her profession in her parents’ hotel and after a stay in England, her career soon brought her to Nuremberg. She loves to spend her free time in the city – so you too can profit from Anne Krodel’s very personal suggestions for a perfect day in Nuremberg.
Get your day off to a perfect start: Breakfast at the hotel
As guests of our hotel you are sure to have a perfect day in Nuremberg. A large selection of delicious food and beverages ensures that everyone can enjoy his or her own individual favorite breakfast. After that, the beautiful historic center of Nuremberg beckons visitors to take a little scenic tour. Just follow the route to the Wunschring, where you turn around and cross the main marketplace through numerous small alleys. Discover the special charm of our Franconian metropolis while you enjoy a shopping tour in our pedestrian district. A variety of small boutiques and charming specialty shops attract customers to go on a shopping spree. You can also walk up directly to the castle and enjoy the magnificent view from the tower. If it should rain, I suggest a fascinating tour through Nuremberg’s ancient underground passages or a visit to one of Nuremberg’s various museums.
Insider tip for lunch
My personal „insider tip“ for lunch is just around the corner. “Da Claudio” – my favorite restaurant – is located directly at the foot of the castle hill. This is where I enjoy delicious food in an authentic ambience.
Cafés and museums
My favorite way of spending the afternoon is enjoying a cappuccino at „Café Lorenz”. To get there, just take a short walk from the Trödelmarkt towards the main train station. Afterwards, a visit to one of Nuremberg’s museums is just the right thing: the “Neues Museum“ at Klarissenplatz is always worth a visit, the “Germanische Nationalmuseum” makes history come alive, and train fans get their money’s worth at the Verkehrsmuseum.
Traditional or elegant? Dine just as you wish
Depending on your preferences, there are several places that come to my mind if you want to enjoy a great evening. To experience traditional Franconian hospitality, try Böhm’s Herrenkeller, where hearty regional dishes are served in rustic surroundings. For a more elegant dining experience, the Essigbrätlein is just right. And the Opatija, my third tip for great dining, is renowned for its refined ambience.
Nuremberg for night owls
Nuremberg also has a good deal to offer to night owls. Whether bar, beach club or live concert – there is just the right thing for every taste. For a nightcap after dinner I recommend the Bar Nürnberg or the Mata Hari Bar, where there are live concerts as well. After midnight, the “Wacht am Rhein” attracts customers with its distinctive ambience, its colorful clientele and a kitchen that serves food late into the night. And in the summer, Nuremberg offers a very special highlight: the Beach Bar is the right place to enjoy an authentic vacation atmosphere on a sandy beach with exotic cocktails.
