Extracts from Hotel Luga’s chronology
Hotel Luga is considered an institution in Nuremberg. As soon as in 1938, Luise Gaukler founded a private five rooms hotel. The hotel at Gabelsberger Straße owes its current appearance to a reconstruction in 1960. In 1995, the house was completely restored. Another partial restoration was made in 2007. But they don’t want to rest on their laurels. Gaukler family strives to continue improving the comfort and soon become owners of a 3 Star Superior Hotel.
Calm yet central situation
Hotel Luga in Nuremberg permits its guests to enjoy the calm while being accommodated in a central hotel. This family hotel is just 100 meters from metropolitan station Maffeiplatz. It’s a 900 meter walk from the hotel to the central station and Nuremberg’s inner city. The airport is a few minutes drive away. The hotel can be recommended to tourists and traveling salesmen as well. Thanks to the excellent underground traffic connections, both Messe Nuremberg and the historic center can be reached within five minutes.

A family enterprise with tradition
The vocational choice was quite clear for Susanne Gaukler from the very beginning. She obviously had to carry on her parents’ enterprise. New guests from throughout the world give variety and the different cultures broaden her horizon and make some encounters unforgettable. So it’s become her life task to facilitate her guests from all over world a pleasant stay at her hotel.
Variegated Nuremberg: my tip for the morning
Nuremberg has a lot to offer – my forenoon program thus shows you very different facets of this beautiful Franconian city. After a hearty breakfast at Hotel Luga, start your discovery tour with a visit to the Reich Party Rally Grounds with the annexed Documentation Center. Then I suggest a paddleboat tour at Dutzendteich, simply ideal for a short break. Here Nuremberg presents itself from its particularly idyllic side! After that, the Café situated in the recreational park invites for a short breathing pause.
Lunch with a view
I prefer having lunch at “Alex” at the Main Market. From here, you enjoy a great view over the busy activities at Nuremberg’s Main Market. As a skillful mix of Café, Restaurant, and Cocktail-Bar in the evening, the “Alex” offers a broad selection for any appetite. With tasty wafers, shakes, or ice cream bowls, those having a sweet tooth get their money’s worth and among the hearty meals there are specialties from all over the world. No matter whether schnitzel or steak, pasta, tarte flambée, or tasty snacks – here everybody grows to like it!
Historic Nuremberg: round walk in the afternoon
For the afternoon, I recommend you a historic promenade across beautiful Nuremberg. Start climbing the castle which itself is worth a whole day excursion. This splendid complex is not by chance considered one of the most important medieval emperor residences. During a guided tour, you’ll learn a lot about the life in the castle. Besides the palace with its magnificently decorated dwelling rooms, also the Double Chapel, the Sinwell Tower, the Deep Fountain, or Kaiserburgmuseum are worth a visit. The convenient combination tickets give you full choice – you just pay for the buildings which you want to visit. Then I suggest a side-trip to Dürer Square and the medieval Hole Prisons. But take care – the dark underground prison is not suitable for the faint-hearted! It’s not by chance that the building can only be visited within a guided tour.
Traditional cuisine in the evening
For lunch, it should absolutely be Franconia’s traditional cuisine! My tip: “Bratwursthäusle”, centrally situated at Rathausplatz. Here both natives and tourists enjoy hearty specialties from the own butchery. No matter if “Bauernseufzer”, “Blaue Zipfel”, or bratwurst with sauerkraut – this restaurant is the right place for friends of good plain cooking! All meals are served on proper style pewter plates giving the evening a very particular charm. Equally recommendable: a visit to “Hexenhäusle” offering, during summer, an atmospheric beer garden. Under inclement weather conditions, the restaurant in a typical half-timbered ambiance invites for a delicious dinner. Also here, traditional Franconian specialties such as bratwurst or Krustenbraten are obvious menu items.
Culture for any taste: my suggestion for your evening program
Nuremberg has a lot to offer to night-owls, too. My tip for the evening: a visit to Cinecittà, Europe’s largest cinema. With no less than 18 cinema halls, an attached 3D dome screen, and even 4D-Cinema, there is certainly the right film for any occasion. Besides the cinema program, Cinecitta offers regular great events, e.g. for movie premieres. A visit to the movies which will become a great experience! Alternatively, Staatstheater Nuremberg invites for an opera and a theater play with a first-class program. In addition to various theater and opera productions there are also ballets and concerts on the program.
