Josef Illinger, Hotel Astoria Salzburg

Josef Illinger

Josef Illinger – your host at Hotel Astoria

As early as at the age of ten, Josef Illinger made his decision for the hotel industry, as he was a passionate cook already back then. At Salzburg’s best hotel, “Österreichischer Hof” (today “Hotel Sacher”), he began his apprenticeship and just three years later, he was a chef at the first-class hotel “Schloß Fuschl” – and stayed there for eleven years. Other top hotels during his chef career were “Palais Schwarzenberg” in Vienna, “Hotel Zürserhof” and, for 17 years, the Sheraton in Salzburg. Yet, he wanted to make a further step to spoil his guests even more. So he decided to become an hotelier and to manage a hotel with a family character, which was very important to him. In the small, privately run Hotel Astoria, he can offer his guests anything in order to pamper them, as he says himself: “There is nothing more exciting than having a small private house and meeting satisfied guests day by day".

Two hearts however beat in his breast: beside his activities as a host, the hotelier is successful with his own advertizing agency. He assists companies with tailor-made community and Intranet solutions, know-how, and ideas. The PrivateCityHotels concept is also mainly penned by him – thus a closed loop with respect to his own hotel ...
