Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol

Home away from home!

Art and Wellness: Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol in Vienna

Is it the unique art collection that makes Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol in Vienna so particular? Is it the first-class equipment implemented with love for details, or does the wellness & spa area, which was completely redesigned in 2009, make any stay at this privately managed hotel a mere pleasure?

What makes my hotel so special?

At Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol, guests can enjoy at every turn the extraordinary art collection of hotel owner Helena Ramsbacher. You’d almost consider the hotel her “extended lounge room”: that’s her credo: creating a home away from home feel for her guests.

In any case, there are plenty of arguments for a stay at the first Small Luxury Hotel in Austria’s capital: With the central location of this luxurious 4 star boutique hotel in Vienna's 6. district, right at Mariahilferstraße and the Museumsquartier (museum quarter), shopping and culture may join in a felicitous liaison.  Guests with a sense for aesthetics will simply feel at home in this elegant private hotel managed by Helena Ramsbacher and her staff...

4 Star Hotel Das Tyrol – a masterpiece of Viennese classicism

Helena’s vision was quite clear: She wanted to create a hotel becoming a temporary residence for guests from all over the world, a shelter where old and new elements, Viennese hospitality, and modern comfort merge in a harmonic way. The hotelier found the suitable home for her dream within an original Gründerzeit building in the district of Mariahilf (Vienna 1060) that incorporates the beauty of Vienna’s architectural history in a highly appealing way. This historic building was step by step transformed into the 4 star private hotel Das Tyrol offering even high-brow guests a welcome temporary home.

Das Tyrol - Boutique hotel in the centre of Vienna

This exclusive boutique hotel captivates its guests not least thanks to its first-class situation: as it is situated in the midst of the city, all sights of Vienna's city centre, the famous Ringstraße and the museum quarter are just a stone’s throw away. No matter if you want to experience mere culture and attend a theater or opera performance, explore Vienna's historic old town or go shopping to your heart’s content – this hotel provides the perfect starting point for any activity! In the evening, night life at Mariahilfer Straße is an attraction with its stylish and hip clubs, bars, and restaurants.

Design and Arts: The rooms at Hotel Das Tyrol

30 elegantly furnished rooms pamper even high-brow guests of the hotel. Furnishings have been provided by renowned tradition-rich companies such as Wittmann and Thonet making the unparalleled style of the building a marvelous dwelling experience.

High-quality amenities include any facilities to be expected from a hotel of this category: beyond laptop-size safe, air-con, Sat-TV, and phone, a Nespresso coffee machine and a bathroom with numerous extras for individual comfort ensure a perfect stay. A very special highlight is however the selected original artwork of famous contemporary artists of the art collection Tyrol, underlining the unique charm of each single room.

Wellness for connoisseurs: The Spa of Hotel Das Tyrol

In 2009, the privately managed hotel in Vienna's city centre obtained a very special feature: in the exclusive spa center with color therapy, shower, and sauna, spa dreams become true! Atmospheric light, a salt-water aquarium with tropical fish and corals, and the free bathrobe package leave nothing to be desired. Furthermore every guest has the opportunity to relax privately in the wellness center.

Beyond the first-class spa area, the hotel accommodates also an exclusive art collection comprising works by renowned artists, a beautifully designed breakfast area, a reception desk run around the clock, and an abundant event calendar.

Viennese breakfast delights at Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol

Enjoyment is a key component at Small Luxury Hotel Das Tyrol. That’s what our guest experience when approaching the lovingly prepared breakfast buffet whose abundant selection leaves nothing to be desired. In Helena’s eyes, only the best is good enough – Viennese specialties such as Kipferl (croissant) and Handsemmel (hand-made roll) are available as well as exclusive coffee and tea sorts, egg dishes à la minute, home-made fruit salad, muesli and yoghurt, Staud jams as well as regional sausage and cheese specialties.

For lunch and dinner, nearby inns and restaurants invite people for a stroll through both domestic and international cuisine. A snug evening at a Viennese “Heuriger” or a dinner at a gourmet restaurant – the attentive service staff will be pleased to disclose their very personal hints for an unforgettable stay in the heart of Vienna!

Helena Ramsbacher – a host with heart and soul!

Right from the cradle, Helena has put her heart and soul in this task! At her parents’ holiday hotel near Katschberg Pass, she learned hotel industry from scratch and gladly cared for their guests’ wellbeing.
In Vienna, her dream of an own small yet elegant hotel came true: in 1999, she acquired  Boutique-Hotel ”Das Tyrol” and made it, thanks to a very careful renovation, Vienna’s first Small Luxury Hotel.
As a connoisseur of art, she takes much pleasure in collecting paintings and sculptures by of contemporary artists for both private and professional purposes. Her hotel guests thus enjoy at every turn her exceptional “Tyrol Collection”.
You’d almost think the hotel is Helena’s “enlarged family room”: her motto is creating “home away from home“ atmosphere for her guests.
Thanks to her passion for good food and first-class wine, she is able to give her guests some insiders’ tips. Her own travels are mostly for skiing purposes or inspired by her passion for Southern Europe. Right there, a new second home is being created for Helena and her guests: on Bra? island, Croatia, 500-year-old stone houses are being transformed and extended into a private residence and the “Lemon Garden Hotel“.

Breakfast and enjoyment of art in the morning

For a perfect commencement of the day, I suggest a walk starting from the hotel along Ring Boulevard. Blossoming trees and the impressing historic buildings give a first impression of Austria’s beautiful capital. My tip: Café Landtmann suits best for a short break. They serve an excellent breakfast with brioche, croissant, and coffee. After your walk, you should pay a visit to one of the numerous museums and exhibition halls of the city. No matter if old classics or modern artwork – Vienna has the right offer for actually all tastes! Galleries give a great insight into contemporary art production. Exciting artists and positions are to be found, for instance, at “Galerie Suppan Contemporary”, “Galerie Kovacek & Zetter”, or “Galerie Frey”.

Viennese Cuisine and Fusion Food – my suggestion for lunch

As to lunch, I’ve selected two recommendable locations – as the mood takes you. Friends of authentic Austrian cuisine should let themselves be pampered at “Restaurant Plachutta” near the Opera House. Here they offer good traditional fare on the highest level. My tip: you should absolutely try Wiener schnitzel! The “Yohm” at Petersplatz follows a totally different approach: Asian Fusion Food including great and creative dishes is on the program. An elegant ambiance and a first-class wine selection will satisfy even rather high-brow connoisseurs.

Stroll across Vienna’s inner city

After some culinary refreshment, the inner city has a lot of offers for you. An extended city stroll is now the right thing. “Steffl”, for instance, presents itself as a modern department store where renowned designers and labels from throughout the world are represented. A stylish atmosphere and the first-class service make shopping a mere pleasure. Especially recommendable: a visit of the 6th level, familiar to connoisseurs as “The 6th Floor”. Shoe aficionados will get their money’s worth there. The huge selection ranges from sneakers to elegant stiletto pumps and offers everything the heart desires. For families, I suggest a visit of well-assorted “Kindermoden Zirkus” at Herrengasse. Here you may then enjoy a rest – for example at Café Central, with apple strudel and “Wiener Mélange”. Selected sweets are furthermore available at “Xocolat Passage” of Palais Ferstl – a must for chocolate lovers! You may then schedule a visit of an exhibition at “BA-CA-Kunstforum” which presents ever-changing artists. Finally, I suggest a stroll across Naschmarkt where you always find some culinary surprises. My very personal tips: I use to buy fruits and vegetables at Himmelsbach, cheese specialties at Käseland, fish at Umar – and stop for an Italian snack at Pöhl...

The Steirereck: Delights in one of the best restaurants of the world

The “Steirereck” has become a legend for both natives and visitors. This family managed gourmet restaurant ranks 11th among the 50 best restaurants worldwide. Anyone who has been there knows why: unique menus comprising elaborately prepared dishes, selected ingredients, and creative combinations stand for culinary art on the highest level. Unsurprisingly, also the Gourmet Guides “Gault Millau” and “Michelin” have awarded several prizes to the “Steirereck”. Beyond the first-class cuisine – you should take your time to fully enjoy it – the elegant atmosphere and friendly service captivate any guest.

To conclude your day: shopping and more at Mariahilfer Straße

Our hotel’s guests will never go far to stylishly round off a perfect day in Vienna: Mariahilfer Straße shopping mall is very close to Hotel Tyrol. A beautiful venue with a stylish lounge atmosphere is Bar Italia, for instance. As an alternative, a visit of Luz Bar is also worthwhile.
