Vienna City Hall – Splendid residences of Vienna’s patrons
Vienna City Hall is the seat of Vienna’s City and the State Parliament. The neo-Gothic building is furthermore the main administration center of the City of Vienna. The complex achieved under Emperor Franz Joseph I. in 1883 covers a surface of 14,000 square meters on the area of the former parade square. The plans of this impressing building were provided by master builder Friedrich Schmidt who also made the designs for decoration and equipment of the City Hall.
Magnificent Vienna City Hall – A jewel in Vienna
The symbol of Vienna City Hall is the so-called “Rathausmann” on the top of the 98 meters high tower of the building. The center is occupied by “Arkadenhof” (arcade courtyard), the largest of the seven inner courtyards and venue for the popular concerts within the framework of “Wiener Musiksommer”. Two ceremonial scales lead to the state rooms. The main hall is 71 meters long. In the Red Saloon, the mayor welcomes his guests. The Landtag session hall extending over two stores features an Art Nouveau luster weighing 3,200 kg attached on the leaf gold coffered ceiling.
